We believe that being part of a community of recovery makes it more likely that we will succeed and become stronger in our own recovery journeys. We run an innovative, 20 hour online learning platform which includes videos, quizzes, written exercises and reading materials. The first half of the training, \u2018Getting SMART\u2019, is also very useful for meeting participants who want to deepen their understanding of the tools and how SMART Recovery works.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”WE FOLLOW THE SCIENCE”][vc_column_text]SMART Recovery is science-based. This means that we constantly track how the scientific evidence is developing about addictions and what really works to help people change their addictive behaviours. Our programme therefore evolves as the science evolves. The way this works in practice is through an ongoing dialogue between Facilitators and a number of psychologists and researchers \u2013 we look for tools and approaches that have an evidence base but are also appropriate within the self-help \/ mutual aid approach of SMART Recovery[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”WE WORK IN PARTNERSHIP”][vc_column_text]The core of SMART Recovery is the meeting led by a trained peer Facilitator in the community, but this is not the only way of introducing people to SMART. This involves us training some of their staff to kick start meetings within their services, build links to the peer-led meetings in the community and encourage service users to train as peer Facilitators themselves. SMART Recovery (Self Management And Recovery Training) is NOT a 12 Step Group like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).<\/h2>\n

SMART Recovery\u00ae is based on evidence influenced, cognitive \u2013 behavioural methods, particularly Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT). SMART Recovery believes a persons religious or spiritual convictions are a personal matter that can be helpful for some, but are not discussed at SMART Recovery meetings (for inclusivity). SMART Recovery\u00a0teaches people practical, proven self-management and recovery skills.<\/p>\n

SMART Recovery 4-Point Program<\/h2>\n

SMART Recovery (Self Management And Recovery Training) helps individuals gain independence from addiction (substances or activities). Our efforts are based on scientific knowledge and evolve as scientific knowledge evolves.<\/p>\n
