By helping offenders overcome addictions &#8212; drugs, alcohol or behavioral &#8211; SMART can help judges and court personnel reduce recidivism. We help people find recovery through abstinence via our non-12-step, science-based peer support 4-Point Program\u00ae. <\/p>\n<p>SMART Recovery&#8217;s 4-Point Program\u00ae is organized to address establishing motivation, coping with urges, problem-solving and lifestyle balance.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wQbfqnDOK0E\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h5>\n<p>SMART\u2019s science-based offerings for peer support include our face to face meetings and online resources utilizing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), evidence-based tools which are widely accepted in the treatment of addictive behaviours.<\/p>\n<p>We are pleased at the recent endorsement of our program by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP) as a model for peer support, alongside 12-step AA and NA choices.<\/p>\n<div class=\"box1\">\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\"><em><strong>&#8220;Participants regularly attend self-help or peer support groups in addition to professional\u00a0counselling.\u00a0 The peer support groups follow a structured model or\u00a0curriculum such as the 12-step or Smart Recovery models.<\/strong><\/em><sup>19<\/sup>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><sup>19<\/sup> &#8220;Drug Courts must offer a secular alternative to 12-step programs such as Narcotics Anonymous because appellate courts\u00a0have interpreted these programs to be deity-based, thus implicating the First Amendment (Meyer, 2011).&#8221;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u2014\u00a0 NADCP, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nadcp.org\/sites\/default\/files\/nadcp\/AdultDrugCourtBestPracticeStandards.pdf#page=54\" target=\"_blank\">Adult Drug Court Best Practice Standards, July 2013<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>SMART Recovery&#8217;s mutual peer support meetings are free to the general public. We welcome court-ordered participants.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>SMART Recovery Court Outreach Committee<\/h2>\n<p>SMART Recovery\u2019s Court Outreach Committee endeavours to ensure that every court in the United States embraces choice in recovery in relation to treatment and support for addictive issues.
